WILLIAM THOMAS HADDAN
circa 1919 in Oklahoma
Profession: Composer/Musician
"Wid" (his family nickname) grew up in Indian Territory, in what is now Oklahoma.
My Great Great Uncle's Indian heritage was strong. He was raised on the open frontier and the land was central to his life. He composed popular songs of the day celebrating his home country, including "Down In the Ozark Mountains."
This was an era when hanging around the piano and singing with friends and family was a common pastime. Our family still has published sheet music from Wid, which he licensed and sold in the 1920s.

Thanks for joining this tour...
The roots of this family tree have been woven into the history of America. Over the generations, my ancestors came here to be a part of westward expansion -- and there were many hardships in the process.
We offer our respect to the original inhabitants of America, and honor the sacrifices made to bring us to where we are today in this country. The Land that has fed and nurtured us deserves great thanks as well...
